2019 DLTV Outstanding Educator of the Year Award

The last twelve months have been a brilliant time for me professionally. I got invited to present at EduTech Asia in Singapore at the end of last year;  I was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) and got to spend four days with other ADEs on the Gold Coast; I was invited to present at the iOntheFuture6 conference in Sydney and the Gold Coast and I also got to judge this years EduTech Asia awards. This has all been on top of the work I've been doing at my school teaching STEAM and leading Innovations and our Specialists team, being active with my Professional Learning Network (PLN) on Twitter and studying my Masters of Education.

It would be fair to say that
it's been busy. It's been the best type of busy though and I have loved every bit of it. To make the year even better, I was so flattered to be nominated by Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria (DLTV) and then awarded the honour of 2019 DLTV Outstanding Educator of the Year.

This award has really highlighted a few things to me:

  1. If you work hard, people notice.
  2. There is so much power in being active in a PLN. I don't think I would have been noticed if it weren't for the work I share online.
  3. I have been so lucky to work in an environment where success is celebrated. The people I work with every day, especially my team teaching partner. have helped me to grow exponentially.
  4. I entered teaching after an almost 12 year long career in banking. I remember feeling extremely nervous about the road ahead once I decided to leave that behind and embark on four years of full time study. I think it's fair to say that I made the right choice and that I'm on the right path.
Thanks again to DLTV for this award. I am so proud and can't wait to see what the future holds.
